Questions & Answers
Which jacket out of Bealey and Trailhead would be best for an all rounder several day hiking, camping, backpacking. How small does each roll up? Which is the most breathable and which is more suitable for hiking? Is there a better option for similar price
Asked by: Kay12
It depends what qualities in the jacket are important to you.
The Trailhead has more technical features for hiking/back packing. The Trailhead has features such as Pit Zips, lots of adjustable features such as cuffs and hood. The Trailhead is made from NGX2.5 material which has a waterproof rating of 15,000 m/m and a breathability rating of 15,000 MVTR.
The Bealey is more of an all rounder in terms of great for hiking and camping but also great for commuting and wearing throughout urban settings. This jacket does not have as many technical features to it, but as this is made from Gore-Tex material, this jacket has a waterproof rating of 28,000 m/m and a breathability rating of <9m2Pa/W which is measured on the RET scale which equates to this being 'good or very breathable. Comfortable at moderate activity rate.'

How does this jacket compare with the Isograd(without fleece liner) and the flinders jackets? Which will handle more extreme conditions (in snow, rain etc)? whats the difference? Which is more waterproof? which is more better for your money ?
Asked by: biancahs
The Bealey is the most waterproof of the 3 jackets with it's goreTEX membrane rated at 28,000mm while the Flinders is 20,000mm & the Isograd 15,000.
The Bealey will handle extreme conditions the best & is a great multi purpose design. The Flinders is our lightest weight hiking jacket with great packability & the Isograd comes with the added zip in fleece. I would recommend the Bealey as the best value for money as the goreTEX construction will cover you against the most adverse weather!

Beautiful JacketThis is the 2nd rainjacket I have purchased from Kathmandu. The first one lasted over 5 years of trekking (Routeburn, Overland, Kumano Kodo) and cycling adventures and still going strong. Great quality. I have no doubt the Kathmandu Bealey Women’s GORE-TEX will also exceed expectation. I've had the jacket for a few weeks and love it. I know the Goretex won't disintegrate when it rubs against my 60L pack. It is also pretty warm. Most of all, I can wear it on my way to work/dinner and it still looks classy. I bought it in the colour dark blue.

GORETEX JACKETI bought this jacket to replace a jacket that I had for many years. It is lightweight, windproof and easily packed into my luggage wherever I may travel.

Performed well in heavy rainI have had the jacket for about a month and wore it playing golf in torrential rain. It kept me completely dry and comfortable (as much as possible in relentless rain for 4 hours)

Great light weight and versatileVery happy with the quality, fit and feel of this jacket. My only disappointment is that it doesn’t have an internal chest pocket for a phone

Cosy and LighweightI bought this jacket recently as a smart outdoor jacket that is appropriate for work purposes, when I regularly attend property inspections in remote areas. I have already worn it for various outdoor activities including cycling, walking and camping. It is very comfortable and really keeps the wind out; perfect for those days when it's just a little chilly or a light outer shell for colder weather. It folds into a small ball to go in a backpack when the sun comes out and has all the handy pockets you need. I like the fact that I can velcro the front panel closed if I don't want to go to the trouble of zipping. If I'm attending meetings, the neat silhouette it gives you in addition to it's practical features is a plus.
I machine washed this jacket with no issues and followed the instructions not to use fabric softener, though I forwent the tumble dry in lieu of line drying. After camping and a wash, it still smells a little like bonfire smoke. I'm not entirely sure why it has retained the odour after washing, but it's the only fault I can find.
