Rated 5 out of 5 by Charcoal BNC from Unbreakable Had this pack for two years, did a 120km 6 day hike in the Blue Mountains NSW Australia. All paths were overgrown so we had to climb down creeks. Had to lower the bag down rock faces and drag it up rock faces. Virtually no damage. Suggestion add a back pocket for wets and two more small side pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Seb98 from The perfect day pack Late last year after being inspired by my girlfriends trip to Everest base camp I deceived to venture to Tanzania to climb Mt Kilimanjaro. I needed a day pack to carry my essentials everyday on the climb whilst the majority of my other gear was carried in a large duffle bag by the porters. As a result I decided to buy the Altai 50L pack. It turned about to be an excellent investment. It was the perfect size, able to carry all my day trekking gear. With its extensive array of compartments this allowed me to easily separate items to make them more accessible throughout the climb. The Altai also stood the test of changing climates. It's new breathable air flow technology in the back of the pack reduced sweating in the 30+ degree humid tropical rainforest temperatures. On the other hand it was able to keep my gear dry and warm in rainy conditions and even on summit night when temperatures dropped to -15 degrees. Therefore this is the perfect day pack for all climates and situations and I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone!

Can this pack expand (at the top)? Is this included in the 50L or is the 50L with a clean close like in the images?
The pack doesn't expand at the top, it has the extra material there to help keep the contents of the pack secure and packed in, this doesn't add to the 50L volume.

Hi, is this pack 50 L (including the top pockets and side bottle pockets) or is the main pocket 50 L plus water bottle pockets and top storage pockets? just wanting to know the total loadable volume of all pockets thanks!
The total volume capacity of this pack is 50L. This is measured by the total volume of the main compartment. The pockets are not included in the maximum capacity as when the main compartment is filled to its max of 50L there is no further capacity in the pockets so the maximum capacity of this pack is 50L only.

Is attaching a tent to the bottom of this pack easy?
We would not recommend attaching the tent to the bottom of your pack, mainly as I would assume this will be light weight tent to make the hike easier, and you can cause damage to the tent if your pack is heavy and all of the weight is sitting on the tent if you set it down. We suggest either packing your bag to include the tent in the main pocket or you could thread the tent under the top flap of the pack and then using the compression straps to secure the tent at the top. This will poke out of each side slightly but you should be okay depending on the size of the tent.

Is this pack waterproof?
No this pack is not waterproof. We recommend purchasing a pack cover if you are going to be hiking in wet conditions.

What is recommenced load for the pack?
This pack has a capacity for 50L. However, in terms of a recommended load, this really depends on the person. A loaded multi day hiking pack should not weigh more than approximately 20% of your body weight. So for example if you weigh 68kg, then your pack should not reach more than about 14kgs. Using these body weight percentages as a guide will help keep your pack at a manageable weight. Please note, this is just a recommendation so it can vary for different situations.
